Types of jobs in aviation
You will find different sectors within the aviation industry. One has to do with engineering and service-maintenance. The other side relates to the public, one which you see. Jobs in this segment include pilots, cabin crew, flight controllers, ground handling support personnel, cargo section, passenger section, baggage section, flight dispatcher and counter sales. At the highest level a pilot can earn anywhere from Rs 300000 to Rs 800000 per month. Cabin crew can earn from Rs 30000 to Rs 100000 per month. Ground handling support staffs’ salary start at Rs 8000 and go up to Rs 30000 per month. Types of courses
You can join degree courses in aeronautical engineering and attain post-graduation in aviation at that level. You can become a commerce graduate and go on to get post graduate in aviation qualifying as cabin crew, cargo, ground support, flight dispatcher, counter sales and cargo. Airlines may employ you. You could get jobs at airports with the airport’s authorities. The avenues are wide open and there are more opportunities in the middle rung. There can be only so many pilots. There are very few aircraft manufacturing companies so an aeronautical engineer has limited openings and may have to settle for a maintenance job. As ground crew, you have plenty of aviation job openings in cargo and passenger side.
Short duration
A degree takes a long time. It is better to join short term six months or one-year duration post-graduation courses to specialize in the aviation sector. One such area is ground handling services. Join this course and you become trained in aviation operations, aircraft, and airport basics, IATA rules regarding passenger and cargo and baggage handling. Apart from the education side such courses also groom and polish you to fit in with the environment. You can join classroom-based training or you can study online.
Once you pass the course and have a certificate you can apply for jobs such as ground handling officer, guest service executive, airline operation officer, cargo agent or flight dispatcher. Without the certificate, you will find it difficult to gain entry and even if you do you start at the lowest rung at a pittance of about Rs 8000 or so.
